I work for a place that uses a Soundcraft SI Impact mixer with a Soundcraft MADI stagebox. I have had bad experiences with Soundcraft SI boards going down, so I am trying to figure out a backup scenario.
In an effort to save money, I was hoping to re-use the stagebox with a different board (or SAC, which would be ideal) if this board goes down. But my main hurdle is this. Soundcraft (and Digico) use twisted pair cabling for MADI transmission. Everyone else uses coax or fiber.
I'm trying not to have to run new cable as it is extremely difficult to do here. I could go the convertor route. There is only one I have found that will convert from twisted pair. And, yes, I could just recommend another Soundcraft as the backup. But I'd love to move them away from Soundcraft.
Does anyone have any creative ideas I may not know about? How wonderful it would be if there was a software solution that would work on a SAC computer. But I dream.
