Weird Bug in Tempo View Mode

Session crashes here also... but I did notice that as the session opens, there is no setting checked for Tick Resolution... somehow it has a tick res that is not one of the menu selection defaults... picking any of the menu defaults stops the crash here, and saves properly with the session so when opened next time... all seems well.

Sidebar: am I to understand that you don't use the mouse's scroll wheel to zoom? (Maybe you don't use a mouse?) Dude. I remember that function changing my life twenty (or more) years ago. Try it. You'll like it.

I have an older trackball with a rather large marble - maybe I should see if there is a newer version with a thumbwheel. Although, there is enough ways to do things, I don't really think about zooming, just do.

Just went and fixed a dozen affected EDLs. I mostly work on SMPTE view, but it seems all recent music projects have been affected, I am not sure how far back.

Sometimes, importing midi from certain midi programs may set the tick setting to a different value than one of the default common values which could be the source of the issue.

It has shown up during sessions with client present kind of randomly. I would like to find the root cause (if identifiable) so I can prevent the crashes. The blend session is a great way to restore after a crash. But, clients are more comfortable with an engineer that doesn*t have such issues.

I just remember that going from click-click-click or tap-tap-tap to the magic of the mouse wheel was an improvement to the workflow that I never expected and was amazed by. A real time- and flow-saver. Much more Zen.

In our house we all went to the large trackball (Kensington Expert Mouse) that has a scroll ring, quite intuitive once you get the hang of how the ring works. This model is more expensive than many, but worth it, IMO. The one downside is that you can't get the full 4-button functionality while running it through a KVM switch.
