Switching mono to stereo (or vice versa) shouldn't be a problem, but will definitely not append to an existing file, no matter what you try.

Also, I'm not clear on whether you're talking about recording in the MT window or the SF window. Those are two completely different beasts and work in completely different ways.

Generally, the way to add to an existing file is to pick up from where you left off, having started recording the file in SAW and not changing anything. Although there may be ways to make it work with a pre-existing sound file. Probably not worth the effort, though. Best to stick with the SAW paradigm if you want to use SAW.

JR, even in a new session, new audio will be on a different file. File naming conventions are somewhat adjustable, but basically derived from the session name, the audio path settings and the track numbers. In fact you can use this to protect already recorded audio by changing the session name (ie SongTitle_A to SongTitle_B. Not to worry, there a several ways to render it all back into a single file...

BTW, recording more onto the same track number, and session... appends the previously recorded material. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think switching from mono to stereo is an invitation for trouble, so a new session name protects you if you forget...

you should be working with sessions not individual sound files. is that what your doing?

Meaning you start a new session, add and/or record your audio files and then save and close the session. Opening the session will then load all the associated audio files and allow you to add/remove/edit or record more music to that previous session.

Hi, all. I'm having a problem with SawStudio, as described below. I imagine there's a simple solution, but I can't work it out, and the helpfile doesn't seem to assist!

I'm working with a stereo soundfile / session that I recorded some months ago. I now want to add more audio to that same soundfile. In my mind, the logical thing to do is to open the existing file, press 'rec', play in the new material. and close the session. Then, on opening the file again, I should find. that it contains the original material plus the new audio that I've just added.

But that's not what happens in reality. The new material insists on being given a new name, or being called 'untitled'. Can anyone of the fine folks out there spend the time to explain what I'm doing wrong, and what I actually need to do, to achieve what I want.
