The new (old) pc had its first go at a tracking session today. It's only about 80% ready, really.
The session was minimal - stereo keyboard (USB feed) played into piano sample, through SAC, recorded to a single stereo channel in SAW.
One vocal overdub - same routing. All relevant drives are Samsung SSD. (Wonder if Samsung Magician needs to be turned off)...
Only one Reverb (Vegas DX plugin) on an aux for tracking vocal, plus SAC channel strip EQ and Comp.
Mix of Presonus Digimax (adat out) and analog M80 preamps, through an RME Multiface interface on a pcie card.
44.1k/24 bit, 4x64 buffers, RME as master clock.
The recording and basic edit of takes went well. But I've got two issues at this basic level that I need some advice about, for things to look for first in fixing what shouldn't even be issues at this low level.
1- Not periodic, but frequent audible glitch-sounding stuff. They don't get printed and don't affect the tracks in SAW. But it seems there's background stuff messing with the audio. Not losing digital sync. Raising buffers might be a quick fix, but more than 4x64 becomes an issues down the road. I should be able to do that without a sweat.
2- Recording meter in SAW went black on me a few times (that's a first in over 20 years). Switching back and forth, from SAW to SAC and back fixed it. Also, channel strip in SAC wouldn't always update properly. Sometimes it would simply display the wrong channel and a few times wouldn't show the EQ settings. F-key switching would bring it around, but not always the first try.
Any ideas would be appreciated. It's going to be 3-4 days before I can spend serious time on fixing things.
