Bus Compressor Preference?

Post by John F »

I've been using the SSL Bus Compressor plug-in on the master channel of my SAC rig. I like the way it treats the sound, but it seems a bit fragile; occasionally it locks up and refuses to work, and the only way to un-freeze it is to save the session, close it down, and restart it. Obviously, not an option during a live show. Do you have a favorite bus-type compressor that you use with SAC, and can recommend?

John,

As I suspected, SSL employs JUCE...[Click_Me]

This anomaly is precisely how JUCE applications "work" with SAC. The very same issues appear with SAW, but are less frequent....or sho9ukld I say, are less "noticeable".

Consider products from FabFilter...these folks do not employ JUCE!

PS: As a point-of-interest, most often, I was able to remove the plug-in, re-insert that plug-in...and all continued to work. Ensure that you update the session .edl frequently, however.

Try out My Levelizer plugin... pretty tough to beat as an overall bus compressor, if I do say so myself.

I guess I'm behind the times - I hadn't actually realized there WAS a 64-bit version of the Levelizer. I just bought it. Thanks, Bob!

Bob,

What do you do or what do you use to put distortion (Color or heat the signal) in the channels and buses?
