New Forum!

Post by Bob L »

Congrats to Jeanne... she wrestled the forum beast and won... the old forum was not recoverable... there was too much corruption... but she found and installed this new software and even managed to save the user base and messages.... amazing!!!

When you get a minute... send her a word of gratitude.

Thank You Jeanne.

Thank you, Macay! Let me know if you run into any more hiccups with staying logged in and I'll look into it! :)

Me, too. When I entered my username in the reply window (why?) it rejected it, saying someone already had that name (that would be me). So I skipped the username box, and it posted, but as a guest. :?:

I had to use “forgot my password” and reset it, then everything was fine.

It appears to have been a possible cookie issue, which makes sense. I made a few adjustments which should fix the problem! Let me know if that doesn't resolve it! Thank you! ;)

I'm still being logged out after a short time. What is the value of the "Session length" setting?

Also, the ActiveTopics link doesn't list any posts here.

thanks for all your hard work Jeanne. Really glad you were able to salvage all the posts as there is a huge wealth of information here and it would have been sad if that had be lost.

This time I'm not being asked for my user name when trying to reply. Progress!

FWIW, I, too, had to go with "forgot my password" to get in for the first time, earlier today. Although Firefox just used my old password again when I was asked for a new password. Muahahahahahahaha, as the kids say.

Thanks again, Jeanne!

P.S. Okay, this is weird. When I hit Preview or Submit, I get a message saying, "The confirmation code you entered was incorrect. The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." The thing is that I was not asked for a confirmation code. And now beneath the warning message is a username box and a graphic with a funky-looking code that I have to type into confirmation code field. Yikes.

P.P.S. Okay, now it's not liking my user name again ("already in use"). And this time the hard-to-read confirmation code I'm supposed to "mirror" is, like, seven characters long. Argh.

P.P.P.S Still not working. It's giving me the same complaints. I guess I'll try removing the user name.

P.P.P.P.S. Now it's only complaining about the code being wrong. Trying again...

Thank you for the detailed notes, Dave! This is helpful. It appears the system is logging people out too quickly and by the time you reply to a thread, it asks for your name and the confirmation code. I've determined it's not the session length (which I have set to unlimited for the time being), but it might still be a cookie setting. We'll figure it out! :)

I currently have session length set to unlimited while I hunt down the issue with staying logged in.

Thank you for pointing out the Active Topics! That was a switch I had to flip. You'll see them out there now! :)

Good news! I believe the login/logout issue that was causing users to unexpectedly get logged out while posting and then be prompted for CAPTCHA verification codes has been resolved. The issue turned out to be related to how the forum software was handling session and form timeout values internally. I’ve updated those settings to use more standard timeout values, which should provide much more stable session handling while still keeping everyone logged in normally during regular use. Thank you all for your patience while I tracked this one down! :D
