MWS preferences file!

Post by Goran Nordberg »

Hello Folks!
Every time I start MWS I have to configure "MIDI device settings".
It seems that the Preferences file is not saved with the program or it cannot find the Preferences file, I don't know why.
The MIDI devices have changed places or there are devices there that shouldn't be there that also refer to the wrong device.
I didn't have such problems in Win10, it is happening right now in Win11.

Make sure you are saving the pref file in the midi workshop menu... it saves its own prefs... it does not save in the SAW prefs.

Well... I save the MWS pref file from the MWS file menu, and the next time I start MWS the MIDI devices are not in the correct order. So I have to rearrange it again.

Possibly the midi devices are being changed if they are usb devices and you have plugged and unplugged usb harddrives between sessions,,, realize the usb stuff will be adjusted everytime you plug and unplug other usb devices.

Yes, the sound card is USB and the MIDI patchbay is also USB.
It seems that the sound card's MIDI is placing it as the first device. I don't use it at all and it's only 1 in and 1 out. I'm using the MIDI USB patchbay with 8 X I/O. Well... now I understand how it behaves. Thanks for the input.

Plug all the usb in and leave it... don't plug usb in and out... save the prefs once it is all plugged in and then leave it... whether you use the devices or not... realize, usually when you plug a new usb device in, it may be inserting at the front of the line pushing the existing usb stuff to the rear... this of course will change the order and no longer match the prefs... its a typical horrible design choice... a new usb plug in would have been a better design to be added to the end of the order, so the original stuff never changes.

Oh my! Sorry, I'm completely new to this RME-Digiface USB sound card. It has no MIDI at all but places itself as the first device in the MIDI settings in MWS.
I don't understand why it's there when it has no MIDI. The MIDI patchbay comes after it in the device list. I don't touch anything, it's plugged in as is. Maybe Windows putting some USB ports later or earlier in the boot process, I don't know. I've never had a USB sound card before, moved some of my electronic MIDI equipment to our apartment building and the rest is in the other house connected via PCI sound cards and also USB-MIDI patchbays in Windows 10, never had any problems with it.
