Question about SAC/SS card assignments...

Tonight I'm going to use SAC/SS live for the first time and hoping to get a recording out of it using SawStudio. I was playing around with the configuration last night - check signal paths and such and everything looks good.

A question though - since I will be tapping off of SAC's SRC inputs for SS, do I need to have any audio devices assigned to SS under options? If not, does removing the options (setting them to Not Assigned) gain anything in system performance? What about the audio driver model?

When using the SAC?SAW link you do not need any device assignments in SAWStudio... but... removing them gives no performance benefits.

Ok - so then I might as well leave the assigments alone for when I am using SS without SAC.

That was the design goal... the SACLink makes internal adjustments to relax the latency and bypass drivers... without disturbing normal SS settings.

Pleased to report it worked like a charm this weekend! It was only 9 tracks...but it worked great! I get to work on the mixdown this week to hopefully cobble together a demo for the group.

Also - we got a lot of compliments on the sound of the mix out front - very full sounding. It's really nice being able to plug in verbs, delays, etc..., without having to bring a bunch of hardware. I do have to work on mixing with the mouse. I imagine it would be easier if I was just running sound, but playing and mixing with the mouse requires a bit more work (bass flopping around - have to keep it from hitting the rack..., etc...)
