I'm sold with SAC!

Hi All

Here's my little story, after seeing and using SAW in my friend's studio near my city, i was blown away by the sound quality, especially i love the compressor, this is the most "transparent" compressor i ever heard, it doesn't color the sound, very musical to my ears. The EQ is great too, an overall excellent sound.

So, i said, it will be wonderful to have in my band that kind of sound quality for live gigs, the answer: SAC, and with a pre-release price of $300 dollars, man! it's even better, in the future i'll buy SAWStudio for studio work but for now i'm more interested only in live work, i just bought it a few days ago before the pre-release price ends, so here's my question:

Is it posible to have 2 RME HDSPe ExpressCards with 2 Digiface on the same laptop? for a total of 48 channels? i know i can have 24 channels but 48? anyone have done this before? and what laptop can handle that kind of load? what are the requirements? or maybe switch to a desktop?

As a new SAC user i will apreciate your help,

You can have two RME cards together... but most laptops these days only offer one card slot...

I have switched to using a small cube PC built around a micro atx ASUS motherboard... works great for my 48 chan RME rig... very easy to carry... and I used a flat anvil type case for the flat screen LCD panel.... not much more to carry around really... but gives me a solid system.

Hi Jesse

If you don´t already own the HDSP card, then you should look
at RME HDSP madi express card...it handles 64 in/out using only
1 slot.

You will have to buy a madi interface to use with it like rme´s adat to madi box or even SSL´s madi Ibox.

I can only say that it feels more save to do a show with a small power
computer than releing on small cables boxes all over the place.

I have been using a Dell c840 2.6 ghz laptop with two RME Digiface cards and six Behringer ADA8000's to get 48 inputs (and outputs by the way!).

I have an HP Z8800 series 3.6 ghz laptop that has two card slots (most of them don't however) that I use as well.

I use a Universal External Laptop Battery model B-5760 for the laptop and a Universal External High Cap 20Ah Battery for laptop from http://stores.ebay.com/battery-street-Inc to power the RME's

The batteries totally eliminate any power line noise when using the adat connectors from the Behringers.

You can find the Dell c840's on ebay for $250 - $400 depending on condition (corporate lease returns and refurbs)

They have memory sticks that allow you to double the standard Dell configuration and hard drives up to 250 gig with XP loaded. I actually have one drive that has only SAC, SAW and a few plugins on it and a separate drive that I have for internet etc. that I swap-out when I just have to get on the internet

I have been using these for rehearsals and concerts all summer with great results. Mains on one laptop and seperate controls for monitors on the satelites.

SAC is amazing. Then when you get ready to start recording the link up between SAC and SAWStudio is outrageous.
