Mute Button Color
As I'm learning the SAC system, more than once now I've caught myself missing a channel because it was muted and I hadn't noticed it. On most of the physical consoles I've used, it seems like the Mute button turns bright red when it is selected. I'm curious what the thinking was behind making it just sort of fade to black, and if there is any sort of workaround for it? Thanks!

John,
Are you familiar with "shades"? There are number of such shades that will do what you are looking for.
It is also possible to update a particular shade to your preference.
PS: What shade are you currently using?

Re: Mute Button Color
The darker color represents the button being pushed IN... which is when it is active... at least to my eyes anyway.

I guess I'm not familiar with "shades." Can you explain, please? I'm currently using the stock colors that came with the program.mr_es335 wrote:John,

For what it's worth, Bob, I really like what you did with the mute button coloring in SAWStudio 64!Bob L wrote:The darker color represents the button being pushed IN... which is when it is active... at least to my eyes anyway.

John,
Shades may be referred to "skins" in other environments.
SAW uses a different shades than SAC.
PS: I do better with a phone call....if yo give me a number I can call you and discuss this matter further...if you prefer? Send me a PM...we can then chat...

Dave,
Haphazzard developed this shade for SAC. This shade was updated to 64-bit.

Ah--it's a shade. I thought maybe it was some kind of utility software.
Speaking of shades (and I know we've touched on this recently), is there a place one can go to view all the available shades without having to download and instantiate each one to see what it looks like?

Re: Mute Button Color
I use Dark Silver 99% of the time
I used to use Platinum Suite V1
but the lighter and more blue silver color started causing fatigue
I LOVE the pink time counters, tho!
I don't get fatigued with the dark silver shade
In these PT ripoff shades, the buttons are "clear" with a colored "shadow around the inside edges when not engaged;
when engaged the buttons turn full color
faders look more like a "real console" to my mind; very much Neve style

Re: Mute Button Color
aaaaaaand, I don't know how you prefer to solo tracks
for me, 99% of the time I use the "Select Track(s)" function
which I find way, WAY faster than toggling mutes or solos on the Z- or F-Mixers
from the manual (pg 102):
Selecting Tracks
[Left-Clicking] or [Left-Dragging] in the Track Number zone area toggles track number-selection on and off.
[Right-Clicking] in the Track Number zone area toggles all number-selected tracks off.

Re: Mute Button Color
Thanks for the reply. If we choose this program for our church sound system upgrade (and I hope we will), it will probably be for our streaming mixer. (My boss still has his heart set on a big console for FOH) Back in the streaming booth during rehearsal I usually like to first solo each channel to set compression, EQ, effects, etc, then mute all the channels but the drums, get their mix to sound the way I want, then unmute one channel at a time to add the bass, acoustic guitar, lead singer and the rest of the band to build the mix. So for me, the mutes work great for this. I would just like for them to stand out a little more. I'm sure those of you with more experience than me have far better ways of doing this.Todd R wrote:aaaaaaand, I don't know how you prefer to solo tracks

I'll look into these skins. If I can't figure it out, you may be getting another email from me, Dell!

1. Getting a big physical console completely defeats the purpose of using SAC. If your going to go through the exercise of setting up SAC for the streaming booth, purchasing a different console for the FOH is just redundant and a waste of money. You will easily spend 80+ percent of what you would need to use SAC everywhere setting up the streaming booth.
2. Changing the look of the mixer is literally just opening a file (look under the FILE menu at the bottom where it says SHADES). You can set what ever shade you like as the default and it will load automatically every time you launch SAC.
3. An appropriately configured SAC system for your church will include control surfaces which have physical MUTE buttons. Unless your talking about getting a 64 channel console with 64 physical channels in almost all cases you'll be doing banks of 24 channels at a time just like you would be with SAC.

cgrafx,
Well said, Philip! And I am in total agreement with you here!
Both environments consist of a computer. And though a "SAC Rig" will, inevitably, require a few more "items" - monitor, keyboard and mouse for example, these items need not be excessive and can be positioned in less "space" than an equivalent, larger console could ever hope to imagine.
And though I am not as experienced as many are here on the forum, I WAS able to get my daughter setup to run SAC for a local theater group here when their main console crashed and which was then sent out for repair.

- 6 INs, 4 OUTs and 2 Monitor Mixes - and all was good...all without my intervention...other than setting the system up.
Re: Mute Button Color
I'm with you 100%, Phillip! Still, even with the extra setup of doing two different systems, it could still save us a substantial amount of money over another big console for streaming. I haven't given up yet on SAC for everything though. Still working on it. The boss, that is.cgrafx wrote:Hi John,
