ASIO protocol question

Post by smp »

Hello
I am using SawStudioLite ver 5.8a on Windows 11 PC. My audio device is Tascam US 16x08. I just opened a project in SSL that I worked on recently (with the same set-up). The problem today is the audio device.
I go to Options>Audio Driver Model>ASIO Protocol>US-16x08 ASIO. Then Audio Device Set up, it returns Wave Device out 01 =ASIO-Out 1, Wave Device Out 02 = ASIO-Out 3, etc. If I choose this configuration, there is no audio output (or even internal evidence of audio in the mixer). The last time I worked on this project, it returned the normal out 1 = US 16x8 Out 1, out 2 = US 16x8 out 2 etc.
I only have 3 choices for ASIO protocol: 01 = RealTek ASIO, 02= ReaRoute ASIO and 03=US 16x08 ASIO.
I have re-booted several times and even tried different projects always with the same result. It baffles me that it has been working fine over the past year and suddenly now doesn't work. Any ideas????
Thanks.

I don't remember if I felt this was actually related to the ryzen. My current machine is an intel - but still persnickety to what port is plugged into. This is now with a Presonus SX32 (which has its own driver related weaknesses - but still a usb2 interface). Maybe it is related to the trouble on this thread:

Out of curiosity, Had you previously saved your setup as a Preference file - either as default, and/or to file?
Are you saying that these settings are the same every time you open SAW (default preferences) and that your settings have suddenly changed?
Or do you change your audio device from time to time and maybe even reset it with almost every session (if not all the time)?

The devices in SAW are shown as stereo pairs... this means asio 1 and then asio 3 etc is correct...iy really is asio out 1 and 2, 3 and 4, etc.

When you are selecting recording channels you have the option of selecting as stereo pairs or mono devices where you will have options for in and out device 1, 2 ,3 ,4 etc or 1-2, 3-4, etc.

Make sure to save the default preferences after setting this up so the program will retain this setup and you will only have to set it the first time.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I am going crazy. When I wrote the first post the real issue was no audio but today the audio is working fine. Also, I do understand the ASIO stereo pairing (i.e. ASIO 1 = outputs 1 and 2). However I thought for sure in the past it listed as US 16X08- 1, not ASIO -1. Like i said...maybe I am "going crazy". But now all is good. Thank you again!!
