How to Record a Radio Program From Internet To SAW?

Post by UpTilDawn »

A friend's music is being featured in a radio program tonight and I'd like to record that part of the program for my personal library (I produced the original recordings).

How do I record a radio program From the livestream into SAW?
I've tried everything I can think of and had no luck. I've even tried following advice on setting up other programs, but I'm getting nowhere.

My main recording and playback system are typically RME Multiface. I can listen to the radio's livestream just fine.
But can't record anything, to any program so far.

Anybody?

I know I can probably set up SoundForge to do this on my old Windows 7 pc....

you should be able to connect to the stream with VLC, which as a record audio stream option.

I started to try that, but ended up going to SoundForge. It was quicker for me.
It worked. But I will have to try VLC for future use.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I know it's too late for the OP, but in my experience that's usually controlled by the interface hardware or driver. Presonus calls it "Loopback Control" on my 1824c interface. Barring that, I probably would have taken the simple route and used some other internet device, like my phone, and plugged it in to an input on my interface with adapters.

Good to know some programs have a "listen" feature built in. I did not know that. Although...

My solution heretofore has been to use a virtual audio cable of some kind. Like VAC or the one from VB-cable. The other day I used an open-source capture program called OBS Studio to record a Youtube video for my wife. Very cool. Pretty comprehensive. The default interface has faders and input meters for both the current, live Windows input device and output device. Open the program, mute the input device (unless you want your in-room ambient noises picked up) and hit record.

Try Total Recorder (www.TotalRecorder.com). It's an older program, but still works fine, and will capture any audio coming through the sound card. It can output to WAV format, which then loads fine into SAW. I still use it quite often.

Thanks for the great additional suggestions!

I'll give them all a try. I definitely need something simple that I can put on the studio pc, just to grab audio from time to time that isn't readily doable in SAW.
