Renaming region workflow

Post by Teomi »

Hi all,
As far as I know there is no dedicated keyboard shortcut for renaming a region am I right?
I'm building a keyboard macro script so that I can "automate" region naming.

The workaround I have for this is:
1) Hit Tab to a region start
2) Hit T to transfer to soundfile view
3) Hit U to update current region

The result is a duplication of the region but with an updated name. It bloats teh regions list but when I'm done with the task I can just safely remove all the generically named ones.

Is that the best workflow for this?

Thanks,
Eitan

In the Regions menu you have an option for renaming a region.

Right, but there is not a shortcut key command to that operation correct?
The only way I know to do it is with the "Update" feature

this is old school windows functionality, no?

alt toggles whatever underlined letter in a software's menu will open the dropdown (I'm on win10 and for SS to show the menu underlines, and I first have to press alt a three times before the underlined letter of menu shows)
then press underlined corresponding letter or indicated letter to whatever function of the dropdown user wants :-)

switching window focus in SS?
How would user select a region before performing a function?

If multitrack window is active, then Tab>T if at region boundary will open the ReName Region dialog, but window focus will go to Soundfile View?
...how to get back to MT or Regions window? F-Key will do it!

Couple of tips:
1. If your focus is in the Regions Window, then Cntrl, R, R renaming of a region will affect all regions in the multitrack with that new name.
2. However, (nice feature) If your focus is in the Multitrack and you slightly edit the region you want to rename, then (because that action creates a New region name in the regions window and changes focus to the regions window) then pressing Cntrl, R, R, instantly RE-Names the region in the Multitrack "Without you manually changing focus off the multitrack"!

So, If you you had many regions of the same name in the multitrack view (like a sound effect) but you ONLY wanted to change the region name of ONE instance of that in the Multitrack... simply do tip#2
(and it's like renaming a specific region in the Multitrack window without leaving the Multitrack window)
